First Day of Class

Hmmm.. Let's see. Where do I start? Okay, how about expressing my feelings on starting this course. Hehe. I really love to watch literature work being performed instead of reading it because sometimes the language can be quite a huge barrier to overcome and we can only turn to the actor’s actions to compensate what they are actually saying. I am also really interested in acting although memorizing lines is never an easy job for me. To me, giving life to characters really gets my adrenaline running and there will always be some message that the playwright or writer tries to convey by the end of any play. That is the beauty of any forms of literature.
What else? Now let’s talk about our first class. It was a one hour class and Dr. Edwin started off his lesson by giving us sort of a questionnaire. Dang!! How I had the shock of my life. I thought of starting things fresh, you know, forget about what pointer I get last semester and start off with a new semester's resolution. Thankfully, he said that it was just for the review of last semester's course. I really hope I didn't get evaluated for that particular task as I didn't really think I did well. Oh, and about the questions, he asked us about what we have learnt and remembered from the previous course we had with him (Teaching the Language of Short Stories) which I enjoyed very much. The questions are all about point of view. The only point of view I can remember that day was omniscient, 1st person, 3rd person and limited "something" point of view. I couldn't make up my mind which was it; whether it is limited omniscient, limited 1st person, or limited 3rd person point of view. So, I cancel that answer out. In another worksheet he gave us that day, there is an explanation about the types of point of view and I found out that there are some which I am not familiar with such as objective point of view. We also found out on this day that Dr. Edwin's no longer teaching us tutorials and that we only get to see him two hours a week. This saddens me a lot as I really want the expert in the field to teach me but one should never be too greedy, should he?

It is of my greatest amusement to see that you are so interested in watching literature work being performed lively instead of reading the text itself as I am of the same kind of people as you are. Based on your first blog with the title First day of Class (posted by Syakira on January 29), I remember that it was rather a taxing work to do as we had to do a questionnaire paper reviewing last semester’s course.

As I was surprised and shock as you were, I could not remember a single thing on what I have learnt last semester. However, thankfully after a few moments of thinking and recalling, I manage to recall back a few minor things. Nevertheless, I do not think that I did well in answering the questionnaire. I guess you are the only one hoping that you will not get evaluated for that task. Hence, I think that this has actually proved that we should constantly revise our work in order to avoid situation like this to ever occur again.

Usually for the first class, we will talk about the course outline and other boring stuff that related to the course for the whole period of the class. But it came to my surprise that we started our first class with a questionnaire. I still remember my mind and my soul were still at my home, well I was still in my Christmas mood at that time. Just like Syakira, I was shocked because I am not mentally ready to answer any questions related to drama. The worth part was the questions asked were all about point of view. Even though it was a review but I really cannot think of anything about point of view. It seems like the questions were so difficult where the fact that it was actually not really difficult actually (when I think back about it). It was just a basic question about point of view. I could only answered question (I think so…^_^) that was asking about types of point of view which were first person point of view, third person point of view and omniscient point of view. Maybe I was not ready enough to encounter any educated questions. However I was able to answer the rest of the questions with the ‘cooperation’ from my friends even though we were not allowed to do so. But what Dr. Edwin had done for the first class is actually good because most of us totally forget about what we have learned in the previous semester. When I come to think back about it, it shouldn’t happen because everything had been taught before. Thanks to Dr. Edwin because he actually wakes us all from our fantasy and get all of us back to reality. To my surprise also, we will have a new tutor for our tutorial sessions. I was a bit scared because I’m afraid that I cannot follow the new tutor because I was already get use to Dr. Edwin’s style of teaching. But let’s hope for the best because I’m sure that Dr. Edwin will definitely choose the best for his students.

First day of our class... I am scared. In fact, all of us I supposed. It is because we are afraid of being late to Dr.Edwin class. huhu. And yes Dr. Edwin do give us a questionnaire. I was totally blur to answers that questionnaire.Luckly it was just the review to our last semester subject. As the class goes on, I agree with Shakira, I no more afraid and start enjoing the lesson that day. one thing tht never be expected Cik Norbaiti will replace him in tutorial session. That just shock me and us I think. But after all, we had a great day with Dr. Edwin.
